CYC Awarded Grants from GCF, TG, Ohio Community Service Council, Stillson Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, Trustee, and Jergens
Funds will be used to enhance and expand AmeriCorps College Access Program

Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC) has been awarded a $100,000 grant from The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) to be awarded over a two year period, $103,700 from the Texas Guarantee Public Benefit Grant (TG), $25,000 from the Fifth Third Stillson Foundation, and $10,000 from Jergens. In addition the Ohio Community Service Council has renewed their grant for $189,000. The funds will support the AmeriCorps college readiness and preparation program.

The GCF grant will be used to expand Project REACH (Realizing Educational and Career Hopes) to include an Alum feature that supports graduating seniors who will be college freshmen in the fall 2009. Part of the funds from GCF will also be used to pay for college tours, books and resources for students and a Summer Bridge Program.

The Ohio Community Service Council renewal grant will provide funding as CYC  increases AmeriCorps staff members from 12 to 15 and expands to two additional schools – Withrow University and Westside Montessori.

The TG grant will be used to fund ongoing AmeriCorps projects as well as the Project REACHout Alums program.

AmeriCorps’ participation at Shroeder High School will be funded in part by the grant from Fifth Third Stillson Foundation. And finally Jergens has awarded a $10,000 grant to underwrite the cost of campus visits.

AmeriCorps Project REACH is in its third year at the CYC. Last year eleven AmeriCorps advisors assisted over 300 students in 4 Cincinnati Public Schools find their way to post secondary opportunities. In the fall of 2009, students at Aiken, Withrow University, Westside Montessori, Oyler, Shroeder, Riverview East and the Cincinnati Arts and Technology Center are eligible to participate in the AmeriCorps College Access program.

“The CYC is so pleased to have the support of these organizations – together we are improving the outcomes for high school students in our community,” states Kristin Barnes, AmeriCorps Project REACH Director.
