FIDELITY INVESTMENTS HOOPS FOR HOPES BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT RAISED  OVER $4,300 TO SUPPORT TWO AREA ORGANIZATIONS

Proceeds fund programs that benefit area youth

Fort Thomas, KY, April 26, 2010 –  Hoops for Hope, a pick-up basketball tournament presented by Fidelity Investments on Saturday, April 24^th, raised over $4,300 to benefit two local nonprofit organizations: Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC), and Covington Partners in Prevention.  The tournament is in its 11^th year.

More than 150 Fidelity employees played a series of basketball games at the Fort Thomas Armory with the proceeds from the team registration fee – as well as funds raised from Fidelity’s “jeans day” – being used to support the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative’s mentoring and college access programs for high school students throughout Northern Kentucky.  In addition, Fidelity employees donated more than 463 pieces of sports equipment and personal hygiene items to Covington Partners in Prevention benefiting local students in Covington Independent Public Schools.

“Our students can really use this kind of support.  Tennis balls and racquets, baseballs and baseball gloves, art supplies are luxuries many of our students cannot easily afford,” said Stacie Strotman, director of Covington Partners in Prevention.  “Even necessities like toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and toothpaste are sometimes in short supply.  We are grateful when community members like Fidelity employees pitch in and help!”
