Collaboration is another word for living united, so it is no wonder that Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC) is an ideal organization to serve as a United Way Agency Partner. United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s (UWGC) Bold Goals in education align perfectly with CYC’s mission of empowering vulnerable children and young adults to overcome obstacles and succeed in school and in life.
With UWGC’s support, CYC is able to impact over 2,500 students every year, connecting them with positive adult advocates who guide students toward their best possible futures. Over the past five years, an average of 95% CYC senior students have graduated from high school, and 84% successfully transitioned to college, career, or military. Many of these students are connected with adults who become lifelong friends.
CYC student Lamont was matched with his mentor, Tim, when Lamont was thirteen. Tim supported Lamont through many academic and personal struggles. When Lamont’s first attempt at college was not successful, Tim stood by him and encouraged Lamont to keep going. Lamont entered the Army Reserves, where he is currently a sergeant, and recently he received an Associate’s degree in Automotive Business and Management Services. When Lamont was married in the fall of 2014, Tim continued to stand at his side, only this time as his best man!
Lamont is just one example of the positive impact CYC is able to have on the youth of Cincinnati thanks to the ongoing support of United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
