The 2015 Daniel and Laura Keller Family Endowment Scholarship has been awarded to Mariah Brantley, a student at Gamble Monstessori and participant in the AmeriCorps Ohio College Guide program. She was nominated by her AOCG advisor, Stephanie Born, who describes Mariah as “an extremely dedicated student and athlete. She is original and takes on challenges, and I have seen her reach out to all students at Gamble to give a helping hand.” Mariah graduated ranked 5th in her class with a 3.85 GPA, and she will be attending Capital University in the fall.
The Daniel and Laura Keller Family Endowment Scholarship is a $100,000 endowed scholarship established by Daniel and Laura Keller. Each recipient receives $2,500 each year, renewable for four years. The Kellers chose CYC as stewards of the scholarship because of their conviction that CYC has the ability to reach out to students who have limited resources for college, and because they appreciate the staff’s hands-on approach to empowering students.
Dan reflected on the their inspiration for creating the scholarship, saying, “Laura, my wife, was a former educator and administrator. Because of this background, we have always had a great passion for education and are committed to making it one of our key areas of giving.”
“CYC understands the importanct of mentoring by both the staff and groups of dedicated volunteers who assist in bridging gaps in young people’s lives,” adds Laura.
CYC is grateful for the Kellers’ investment in students, making a difference in developing the future leaders in all facets of our society.
